Exploring and photographing the neighborhoods of New York City in the autumn
Week long workshops in October and November 2009

Join Margo, native New York photographer, for a fabulous week of "Photographing Autumn in New York." Margo has planned three fabulous one week schedules for this 2009 Fall. The last week will be Thanksgiving Week with a special Thanksgiving dinner planned. You are free to sign up for one, two or all three (a discount will applied for more than one week).

Each day we will explore a different neighborhood of New York City and environs. We will get an in depth perspective of this most wonderful corner of our planet with its beauty and diversity. We will definitely be off the beaten track and will be able to become familiar with some of the secrets of this great city. Margo promises a different and exciting experience which will give you all fantastic memories of New York.

Participants will have free time to enjoy on their own. We will have many options for eating out and enjoying other activities. Beginner photographers welcome.

Overview
You will enjoy the experience with or without a camera.
This workshop is structured to be flexible and affordable to fit within almost any budget.
Participants are free to select their own airfare and accommodation.
Although we will sharing many meals together, the cost is on our own. This affords the participants maximum flexibility for their budget.
Even though we will explore various neighborhoods in NYC, Margo recommends booking a hotel in the MidTown Area.

Looking forward to sharing and photographing one of the most fantastic subjects on the planet.

Detailed Itinerary
Unless otherwise noted, workshops are 10am-3pm

This trip requires participants to do a fair amount of walking in our neighborhoods.
We will be walking 2-3 hours a day, so comfortable footwear is a must.
You may purchase a daily or weekly Metro card.
It is important to pick up a free subway map (available at most subway stations).

Day 1 : Friday 6pm  
  Dinner, introduction and orientation

Day 2 : Saturday 10am - 3pm  
  Exploring Central Park The emphasis will be on taking people shots and action shots.
We will also visit the highlights of central park.
Bring lunch or snacks or buy food in the park. Lunch in the park.

Directions : Take the subway to 59th St
Days 3, 4, 5 10am - 3pm  
  We will explore from the following Chinatown, Brooklyn Bridge, SoHo, NoHo, Lower East Side, East Village, Washington Square Park, Madison Avenue Park Union Square Market

Day 6 : Wednesday 11am - 4pm  
  * Bronx Botanical Garden
The emphasis will be on landscape and close-up photography using natural light.
Optional early evening dinner at Arthur Avenue (Marios : Margo's favorite)

Day 7 : Thursday 10am - 12  
  Showtime, Summary and Review!
Everyone has the chance to show their favorite photos of the week.

Personal Items
Comfortable casual clothing for our daily photo shoots.
Walking shoes.
Day pack in which you should have water and snacks.
Bring a hat, extra sweater and small umbrella.
Dress for meals will be strictly causal.

Photographic Items
Digital photographers should bring extra memory cards, extra batteries, battery charger, and a memory stick to transfer images (e.g. 4GB)
Two disposable cameras
Camera instruction books. It is important to know how to use your camera beforehand.
If you have a laptop bring this.

Point-and-Shoot in the Field

A course at The New School University, NYC
Sundays 11:00-3:30, from April 12th 2009 for six weeks

Each week, the class explores various New York neighborhoods and captures striking images on a low budget. The use of point-and-shoot digital cameras, simple 35mm film cameras, and even disposable cameras is encouraged to help students develop a unique photographic vision. Beginners are welcome. Bring your camera to the first session.

Shadows, Textures, Reflections: Seeing the Light in New York City

A course at The New School University, NYC
Saturdays 10:00-2:30, from April 11th 2009 for six weeks

Photograph patterns, colors, and shapes on location in New York. In each session, the class shoots together on location in a different cityscape, ranging from the geometries of the South Street Seaport to the natural beauty of parks and gardens. We learn to see deeply in order to create an honest celebration of the city as a landscape of fascinating neighborhoods. Each student has the opportunity to present a photographic statement of New York City. We shoot color slide film for the purpose of critique. First session meets at The New School. Bring your camera.

Sunset Photography

July 15th, for four Wednesdays from 7:00pm - 9:30pm
The Art School at Old Church

Have some fun with your point-and-shoot digital camera! In this 4-week evening course, students explore the various settings on their digital cameras and learn how to capture a summer sunset - that perfect moment that signals the end of the summer day. We will visit nearby locales that offer optimal sunset-viewing opportunities.

Discovering Mexico
Oct 5 - 14, 2006

Join us for our first in a series of small group travel/photo workshops led by Margo Moss photographer, world traveler, and instructor. She is on the faculty at the New School University in New York City, and has been leading groups and creating photography workshops for many years. Margo has a Masters Degree in teaching and holds a post-masters certification as a Learning Disabilities Specialist. She originated the children´s photography program at the Newark Museum. In her travel workshops, Margo specializes in giving each participant individualized instruction.

In Discovering Mexico, Margo & her expert staff take us to fabulous Mexico City, and then onto Guanajuato where we will photograph & enjoy the world class Cervantes Festival. In Discovering Mexico it is our goal to have you come back with some of the best photos you have ever taken. Bring along your sense of adventure and lots of cards and/or film. No photo experience necessary - all cameras welcome. Limited to 12 participants. Everyone is entitled to a "first in a series" discount. Workshop cost: $2000.

Teaching Photography Skills To Assist Local Business

Margo travelled to Copán Ruinas in Honduras during January 2005.
See the pictures here
Margo was teaching local people to take pictures of the world famous Mayan ruins in the area. These were made available for sale to tourists to help raise money for the library project.

Margo produced a manual and judged the best photos taken on the course. At the end of the course there was an exhibition at the Central Park of the town, during which the pictures from the course were available for sale. Money collected was used to by new books about photography for the library.
